In many places around the world, the anticipation of one of the brightest holidays in the Christian tradition - Christmas, has become an event, which brings people together for a whole month before Christmas. This tradition originated in Germany and Austria even before 500 years with Christmas markets, where every evening visitors have the opportunity to socialize, to enjoy delicious food and warming drinks and immersed in a festive atmosphere to count down the remaining days until the holiday together. A month before Christmas, the cities are lavishly decorated by the numerous Christmas markets, creating a very good mood, tearing people away from their daily lives, creating fabulous spaces of coziness and warmth in winter evenings.

For the first time in Bulgaria, such a Christmas bazaar is held in 2011 year in Sofia. At the heart of its concept lies the idea of ​​bringing the authentic German tradition of celebrating Christmas to the territory of Bulgaria. For this purpose, a mini Christmas town of festively decorated wooden houses is specially designed and built on site, offering visitors dishes typical of German cuisine, mulled wine and treats for the kids, as well as handmade souvenirs – wooden toys, Christmas decorations. A stage is set in the heart of this town, where the cultural program of the event - a puppet theater - takes place every day, Christmas music performances by various artists, school concerts, kindergartens and charitable foundations, as the main highlight of the program is Santa Claus, who every night brings gifts for the children and helps a special guest open another window from the Advent Calendar. Every year, the German Christmas Bazaar also supports a specific social cause by collecting donations and providing the stage and grounds of the bazaar free of charge to foundations, engaged in charity. There is also an area for animation and entertainment for the youngest visitors.

The idea for a German Christmas Bazaar in Sofia arose among the representatives of the German community in Bulgaria. With the support of the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of Germany in Sofia, it was organized for the first time in 2011 Mr. from company “DiBi-Events” Ltd. in close cooperation with Lufthansa Technik Sofia. For the realization of the German Christmas Bazaar, the organizers attract many Bulgarian and German companies as participants and collaborators, some of whom choose the bazaar, to organize their company Christmas celebrations. Gradually, the event gained immense popularity, which leads to its growth and from 2012 Mr. started to be held in parallel in the city of. Plovdiv at the invitation of the Municipality of Plovdiv, where for the organization firm “diBi-Events” Ltd. cooperates with Winterhalder Bulgaria. It receives the support of the Embassy of Germany in Sofia and that of the Embassy of Austria, and through 2013 Mr. the Embassy of the Swiss Confederation also stands behind this initiative.
